The medal around his neck isn’t the only gold thing Anthony Edwards will be wearing.
After the Minnesota Timberwolves star helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, Adidas rewarded him with a custom pair of AE1’s to honor the accomplishment:
It’s not every day that a 23-year-old is coming off a breakout season that included a run to the Western Conference Finals and an Olympic gold medal, and Adidas took advantage of the opportunity accordingly.
The gold shoes represent more flash for a player with one of the flashiest games in the entire NBA. That game was on full display during the Olympics, as he was the team’s fourth-leading scorer behind future Hall of Famers and all-time greats in Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
Edwards helped anchor the secondary unit and provided a spark that other countries struggled to match.
In a perfect world for the Timberwolves, he will build on his Olympics experience and become an even better player during the 2024-25 campaign. That is surely a frightening thought for the rest of the NBA, as Edwards just led Minnesota to a Western Conference Finals appearance while averaging 25.9 points per game.
If he takes that next step, perhaps the next gold he will be celebrating is the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
