SUPERIOR, Wis. — When gymnastics hits the spotlight every four years, young athletes are inspired by Team USA.
One local gym, Twin Ports Gymnastics says when the Olympics takes place future gymnasts take notice. The summer games, comes with an increase in calls and class attendance.
As young girls and boys watched Team USA take home hardware, they’re often inspired to chase their own dreams. Especially when Minnesota Native Suni Lee reaches the podium.
“We have a lot of great athletes in Minnesota and a number of these girls can be a great athlete if they are putting the time and the effort into it,” Krista Almquist, Twin Ports Gymnastics Director. “So it’s very inspiring for these girls being from Minnesota. It’s really exciting for these kids to see that local kids can make it if they put the time and energy into it.”
Gymnastics is hard work, but watching the professionals on the big screen teaches kids to keep practicing their skills.
“I just think it’s really cool to watch it because I keep thinking I can do that if I keep working hard enough, I can do that some day,” said young gymnast Peighton. “It’s fun to think that someday you could do those big skills that they’re doing,” said young gymnast Willa. “It’s fun to watch because they say point your toes and stuff like that, so then you can learn from them,” said said young gymnast Kinley.
Twin Ports Gymnastics offers a range of classes, from school age to a completive program.
