The Minnesota Vikings have had one of the most up-and-down offseasons in the NFL this year. Four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins, who missed half of the 2023 season with a torn Achilles, signed with Atlanta Falcons in free agency. The Vikings signed Sam Darnold and drafted Michigan’s JJ McCarthy in an effort to replace him, making the quarterback position an interesting battle to watch in training camp.
Minnesota also signed star wide receiver Justin Jefferson to the largest contract in NFL history for a player at his position. His four-year $140 million deal will pay him $35 million per season, easily making him the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL.
While the Jefferson signing was the highlight of the offseason, the Vikings, unfortunately, have also had the lowest low of any NFL team this summer. Fourth-round pick Khyree Jackson was tragically killed in a car accident last week in a wreck caused by a drunk driver. Two other people who were in the car with Jackson were also killed. The drunk driver walked away from the accident without injury.
During the memorial vigil for Jackson, another person was killed in a shooting.

The Vikings offseason saw another low point this weekend. Just under a week after his teammate was killed by a drunk driver, wide receiver Jordan Addison was arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly driving under the influence.
Luca Evans of The Daily Report was the first to break the news.
Per Evans, Los Angeles police officers responded to a call at 11:06 PM regarding a parked car blocking lanes on the Glen Anderson Freeway. Addison, the driver, was asleep at the wheel. He was arrested at 11:36 PM and released at 1:36 AM on Saturday morning.
Last summer, after being drafted by the Vikings with the 23rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Addison was pulled over and cited for speeding and reckless driving.

Last year, Addison became a big part of the Vikings offense after Justin Jefferson missed time with an injury. He ended his rookie campaign with 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns despite playing with mediocre and bad quarterback play for over half of the season.
While he appeared in all 17 games as a rookie, it has yet to be determined if he will face any kind of suspension from the NFL or Vikings for his DUI, especially after losing a teammate to a drunk driver.
