NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Helene is strengthening over the Gulf of Mexico as we begin to feel this long awaited northerly breeze.
Helene has strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane as it takes aim on the Florida Gulf Coast. The backside of the storm is already influencing our weather as north winds have kicked in ushering in much lower humidity.
You will feel the difference today as the afternoon will be warm but a much more pleasant warmth. The lower dew points will set the stage for a cool night tonight. Lows dip to around 60 on the north shore, with middle 60s even expected south of the lake. That will make for a pleasant start to Friday. We’ll keep the dry and sunny weather around into the weekend.
No rain chance shows up in the 7-day forecast currently.
