Rain continues now until the front crosses the area. Unfortunately, it looks like the clouds and even some rain will end up sticking around into the weekend. The cold front will stall nearby just to our South on Friday, and this will keep southwest Connecticut cloudy. There could be a few showers or sprinkles, too. As the moisture from Hurricane Helene swings toward the Mid-Atlantic on Friday and Saturday. Some of this moisture will interact with this frontal boundary and help produce some more showers. It’s a close call as to who sees the rain, but it does look like it’s a cloudier forecast now for the beginning of the weekend. Somewhat drier air takes hold Sunday and into early next week before another system brings some rain Tuesday-Wednesday.
TROPICS: Helene is now a major hurricane. It will make landfall on Thursday night along the Big Bend of Florida and there is a small window where the storm could strengthen up until landfall. A dangerous and life-threatening storm surge will follow along the West Coast of Florida on Thursday night. Soaking rains will cause flooding not just in Florida but also through the SE and the south Appalachians. The storm will slowly wind down over land the next few days and will not directly impact us, but some of the outer bands of tropical moisture will slide north through the Mid Atlantic. The trend has been going farther north now with the rain. The clouds and rain will intertwine with the front to our south and some of this will slide north on Saturday. Our local forecast has changed a bit for the weekend with clouds and sprinkles/showers now.
