One of the biggest bills for most people is the one that pays for their home. Need a cheaper place to live? USA TODAY has some data to help you decide where to go.
The USA TODAY Homefront research team ranked Georgia’s 10 most and least expensive cities to rent a home. Augusta landed on the No. 9 spot on the “least expensive” list, based on data collected from the Zillow Observed Rent Index in July.
Here’s the full list including what rent is typically like in these cities:

Albany at $1,029
Macon at $1,189
Dalton at $1,238
Columbus at $1,245
Valdosta at $1,302
Rome at $1,328
LaGrange at $1,330
Augusta at $1,434
Statesboro at $1,446
Here was their list of the most expensive cities in Georgia:
Cedartown at $1,999
Jefferson at $1,970
Atlanta at $1,950
Savannah at $1,910
Gainesville at $1,824
Athens at $1,774
Hinesville at $1,728
Brunswick at $1,708
Warner Robins at $1,665
St. Marys at $1,565
Georgia’s median rent is $1,995, a $45 increase from 2023, according to Zillow. Rental trends in Georgia plateaued and declined throughout 2023, but rental prices rose this year and are just now reaching a plateau from June through August 2024. The median rent in Georgia remains just 5% under the national median.
