U.S. News released its 2025 Best Colleges rankings Tuesday. The University of Mississippi is the state’s top public university while Millsaps earned top spot for the state’s best liberal arts colleges, both maintaining their top titles from last year’s rankings.
The annual U.S. News rankings considered a number of factors including tuition price, enrollment numbers, testing score and community engagement.
Rankings are broken down into main categories: national universities and national liberal arts colleges. Both categories make up nearly 1,500 total universities and colleges ranked on the 2025 list.
National universities
Maintaining its title as Mississippi’s top university, the University of Mississippi ranked No. 171 in the national universities category.
This ranking is slightly behind last year’s in which Ole Miss ranked No. 163.
