US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, has lauded India’s decision to establish two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles. He described the move as an ‘important step forward’ in the bilateral relationship. ‘Excited to see the U.S. & India achieving new horizons together,’ Garcetti said.
This announcement follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on Sunday, revealing India’s plans to open the new consulates. Addressing the Indian diaspora at Nassau Coliseum in New York, Modi highlighted the strengthening ties between India and the US, aimed at achieving the global good. ‘The partnership between America and India is growing stronger. Our partnership is aimed at global good,’ Modi said.
Prime Minister Modi noted the contribution of the Indian diaspora and mentioned that during his previous US visit in June 2023, an agreement was made with President Joe Biden to open consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. He also confirmed plans to operationalize the consulate in Seattle later this year.
During his visit, Modi attended the Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, and held extensive talks with President Biden. The discussions covered regional and global issues, which Modi described as ‘extremely fruitful.’
