Michigan football’s run of three straight weeks of dropping in the Associated Press Top-25 poll is over.
A 27-24 upset win over Southern Cal on Saturday helped the Wolverines climb six spots in this week’s AP poll, up to No. 12. It was the single-biggest jump of the week in college football, breathing new life into Michigan’s playoff hopes.
The top four spots remained unchanged this week, with Texas still holding onto the No. 1 spot, followed by Georgia at No. 2, Ohio State at No. 3 and Alabama at No. 4. A road win over ranked Oklahoma State helped Tennessee leapfrog Ole Miss for No. 5.
Elsewhere, two other Big Ten schools, Oregon and Penn State, helped round out the top 10 this week, both jumping one spot to No. 8 and No. 9 respectively. USC fell two spots following the loss to Michigan, to No. 13.
Illinois made second-biggest jump of the week, climbing five spots to No. 19 following a 31-24 overtime win at Nebraska.
Kansas fell the furthest, plummeting 10 spots to No. 23 after a 38-9 loss to BYU, who debuted this season at No. 22.
Michigan (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) also rose five spots to No. 12 in this week’s US LBM coaches’ poll.
