So much is at stake next week early in Alabama’s football season.
Kirby Smart brings the University of Georgia to Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium for a Southeastern Conference showdown against his former team. Alabama is a 2.5-point underdog for the matchup. The Crimson Tide dominated the Bulldogs in the last two meetings where it was the underdog, including the 2021 SEC Championship Game.
Some Tide fans have concerns about Georgia, but most are ready for the game. The Bulldogs bring in an offense with an NFL-caliber quarterback (Carson Beck) and arguably the best defensive front in college football.
Alabama looks to silence naysayers that feel Georgia will down the Tide at home.
Josh Cuevas, a transfer tight end from Washington, wants to send a message against the ‘Dawgs. After posting his first career touchdown for the Tide versus Wisconsin, he had one thing to say Friday to reporters about the looming matchup.
“I mean, Georgia is a great team,” Cuevas said. “We all know it. Even if you don’t come to Alabama, you know that rivalry is always going to be there. We respect every team we play, but we are going in as Alabama football. They have to play us too.”
Cuevas wants the world to know that more than Georgia will be on the field next week. The Bulldogs have won two of the last three College Football Playoff National Championships, but it will be on Saban Field next Saturday.
Georgia beat a Nick Saban-coached Alabama team only two times in 10 meetings (2-8) since 2007.
Cuevas looks forward to the Tide making a statement against the Bulldogs to open the Kalen DeBoer era.
