WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Connecticut Day at The Big E has brought large crowds and extra traffic to the West Springfield area. The day typically brings large crowds and this year is no different. Western Mass News spoke with Andre Keitt, who visited from from West Hartford and was thankful traffic was light when we arrived Wednesday morning.
“Start early, you’re okay. I was looking around just now at the traffic in here, thinking I want to get out of here [because] if it’s not bad already, but coming in this morning, it was good,” Keitt said.
Debra Collar of East Hartford told us she waited in line for parking for about 15 minutes, which wasn’t bad.
“Next to all the other years, we’ve been here, it’s been, it was terrible,” Collar said.
Overall, she said she expected more people on Connecticut Day.
“I thought it would be busier, yes. It’s not as busy as I’m used to,” Collar added.
Others told us the wait for parking was the longest part.
“We sat there for about five minutes intervals and, you know, about 15, so about 35 to 40 minutes to get in, but getting here to Memorial Drive was great,” said Pete.
For the Demauro family, traveling from the Connecticut shoreline was smooth sailing.
“It wasn’t too bad. It was probably added another 10 to 15 minutes to our travel, but we usually coming in through the highway, but it wasn’t bad. We lucked out,” said Gavin Demauro.
