South Dakota high school football predictions Week 4No. 2 Lincoln vs No. 4 Jefferson
Lincoln 28, Jefferson 21: This should be a fun one. Both teams have been playing great and are still undefeated heading into this matchup.
Both sides have had a relatively soft schedule early, but the Patriots have a win against a top-five opponent under their belt, something Jefferson doesn’t. Lincoln’s offense has been stronger, scoring over 35 points in each game while the Cavaliers’ defense has allowed fewer points. Jefferson has only allowed one team to score more than one touchdown against them.
It should be tight but in the end, the Patriots offense should be too much for the Cavaliers defense.
No. 2 Canton at No. 1 Sioux Falls Christian
Sioux Falls Christian 35, Canton 20: This is another top matchup more than worth the price of admission. Both Canton and Sioux Falls Christian have gone undefeated up to this point, but the Chargers have looked more convincing on both sides of the ball.
Sioux Falls Christian defeated No. 3 Lennox last week, seemingly with ease. After struggling in the first half they shut down the Orioles offense in the second.
Canton, on the other hand, has only scored over 20 points once this season and that was against an unranked Vermillion side. In that game against the Tanagers, the C-Hawks also gave up 35 points. They’ll have to be much sharper on Friday to contain the Chargers.
No. 1 Harrisburg at No. 4 Yankton
Harrisburg 35, Yankton 14: The Tigers have looked unstoppable of late, but this will be their toughest test since their Week 1 win over O’Gorman.
The Bucks fell to Watertown in Week 2 but bounced back with a huge 74-6 win over Douglas last week. While they’re currently in great form on both sides of the ball, they haven’t faced an opposition like the Tigers yet.
Harrisburg has scored over 40 points in each of their past two games.
No. 5 O’Gorman at Rapid City Central
O’Gorman 24, Rapid City Central 14: After struggling in their opening three games, the Knights might be due for their first win.
Both O’Gorman and Rapid City Central have started the season 0-3, but the Knights have faced the top competition in 11AAA, falling to Harrisburg, Lincoln, and Brandon Valley in consecutive weeks.
Facing Rapid City Central should provide a bit of relief after the schedule they’ve had to start the season.
No. 3 Lennox at West Central
West Central 28, Lennox 16: The Trojans have been unranked since their Week 1 loss to Sioux Falls Christian. This game will be their chance to reenter the top five.
Since that Week 1 loss, West Central has dominated their opponents, outscoring both McCook Central/Montrose and Belle Fourche 111-22. While that isn’t the strongest opposition, the Trojans have been able to figure some things out on both sides of the ball.
Lennox looked dominant in both their wins and proved they could hang with other top competition in 11A in their tight game against Sioux Falls Christian, but they’ll likely struggle against a strong defensive team like West Central. The question is whether the Trojans will be able to put up points against a surprisingly solid Lennox defense.
No. 3 Brandon Valley vs Roosevelt
Brandon Valley 42, Roosevelt 7: The Lynx have had a strong start to the season, only allowing two touchdowns in three games. Roosevelt’s lone win of the season came against Rapid City Central in Week 2, while their two losses came against top-five teams.
The Rough Riders have allowed a combined 101 points against those two top-five teams and will likely have a tough outing against Brandon Valley, who have been improving on offense each week as well.
Rapid City Stevens vs Washington
Washington 21, Rapid City Stevens 14: The Warriors are another team who have had a difficult schedule to open the season. They’re 0-3 after facing Brandon Valley, Harrisburg and Jefferson.
The Raiders have the same record but against slightly worse competition. This should be a tight game, but the Warriors took a stride forward last week on offense, scoring two touchdowns against the Cavaliers. They should continue that momentum with a win here.
Douglas at Tea
Tea 63, Douglas 7: The Titans have been on a tear since their Week 1 loss to Spearfish. Since that loss, they’ve outscored their competition by 59 points. Quarterback Brenner Konrad has been on a roll, affecting the game as a passer, runner and linebacker on defense.
The Patriots have struggled to open the season, to say the least. Last week they lost 74-6 against Yankton, and they lost 42-0 to Sturgis Brown the week before that. It won’t get much easier facing Tea.
