Valor Oil, based in Owensboro, Kentucky, is expanding its Hop Shops convenience store brand into Indiana.
READ MORE: Is This Epic Kentucky Bathroom the Best in America?
We truly live in the golden age of convenience stores. Last year, I visited a Buc-ee’s for the very first time, and it completely blew my expectations away. If you’ve never been to one, they’re famous for their extensive line of gas pumps, massive bathrooms, and iconic food. While there, I tried their brisket sandwich, which was definitely the best one I’ve ever had—from a gas station, anyway.
Texas-based Buc-ee’s isn’t the only worthwhile convenience store stop in America. One Kentucky chain is gaining popularity every day, and they’ve just announced their plan to open a new store in Indiana. Famous for their growing list of “disco bathrooms” in Kentucky and Ohio, HOP Shops is looking to make their mark on the Midwest.
What Are HOP Shops Convenience Stores?
HOP Shops is a Valor Oil Company, owned and operated by the Emmick Family. According to CSP Daily News, the company has two Hop Shops Truck Plazas in Owensboro, ten Hop Shops Convenience Stores in northern Kentucky, and two Hop Shops Truck Plazas in Ohio. Six of those Hop Shops have “Disco Bathrooms,” which are just like regular bathrooms, except they have a big red button that, when pressed, lets you do your business under a disco ball and lights.
The bathrooms have not only been a source of amusement for passersby, but this year, one played host to a very special event. Two folks actually GOT MARRIED at the Verona, Kentucky, location on Valentine’s Day. It’s safe to say these bathrooms are definitely a hit, which is why the company is planning to add more to existing locations. The company even told CSP Daily News that a new tune will soon be added to the disco-themed restrooms.
HOP Shops Convenience Store to Open Its First Location in Indiana
Valor Oil has announced that they are expanding their Hop Shops convenience store brand in Rockport, Indiana, in 2024. According to CSP Daily News, the company has owned and leased the Rockport Truck Plaza at 981 N State Route 161 for many years but officially took ownership of the property on September 10, 2024. The company plans to transform the truck stop into a Hop Shops Convenience Store with their famous disco bathroom, along with expanded food options.
When it comes to food options, Chester’s Chicken is among the planned additions for the Rockport location. Chester’s Chicken is described as a quick-service restaurant chain that serves fresh, double-breaded fried chicken. Currently, there are around 1,300 active franchised and licensed locations across the United States. Chester’s Chicken started serving up their fried goodness on September 19 in Rockport, but there is no word on when the disco bathrooms will be up and running.
