See Taylor Swift’s Harris endorsement, Trump’s response after debate
Taylor Swift took to Instagram to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Former President Donald Trump responded in the spin room.
Former President Donald Trump shared an all-caps post on social media the morning of Sunday, Sept. 15, proclaiming “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Of course, he does. Swift endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
On the same day as Trump’s outburst, an X user named @realTrumpNewsX with 212,900 followers shared a post claiming Swift “has lost an estimated 150 million dollars over the boycotting of her merchandise and memorabilia after she endorsed Kamala Harris for President.”
The unverifiable claim was accompanied by two photos of a clearly emotional young Swift in tears.
Maya Thompson of Scottsdale had seen those photos before and knew exactly where.
“Is this real?” Thompson asked on X, sharing the @realTrumpNewsX post.
“Are they using a picture of @taylorswift13 crying after she performed ‘Ronan’ about my child? I’m going to throw up.”
Ronan Thompson died three days shy of turning 4 in May 2011 after a nine-month battle with Stage 4 neuroblastoma.
Swift topped the charts at iTunes in 2012 with “Ronan,” a bittersweet-to-devastating ode to Ronan told from the perspective of his mother. Swift wrote the lyrics based on Thompson’s blog, giving Thompson a co-writing credit.
“I remember your bare feet down the hallway,” Swift sings. “I remember your little laugh / Race cars on the kitchen floor / Plastic dinosaurs / I love you to the moon and back.”
The photo of Swift crying was taken after her first live performance of the song at a Stand Up to Cancer benefit in September 2012.
In a second post, Thompson asked, “Can you please help me get this post taken down by telling @realTrumpNewsX to remove this, as these are pictures related to my dead child? I feel so violated; this moment is sacred to me.”
Less than four hours after Thompson’s first post, the offending post had been deleted.
In its bio, @realTrumpNewsX says it has “No Affiliations with @realdonaldtrump.”The Republic couldn’t reach out to @realTrumpNewsX because the account doesn’t accept messages.
The Republic has reached out to Thompson.
