Breezy start to the week in Arizona with big cooldown coming

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Showers and thunderstorms continue this morning in eastern Arizona. The Valley is dry and quiet, but a few pop up showers are possible this morning and again around midday and into the afternoon hours.

Look for a high of 101 degrees today in Phoenix.

Increased winds are expected across Arizona today as a trough of low pressure moves by to the north. Valley winds are expected between 15 and 25 miles per hour, while stronger winds with gusts to 50 miles per hour can be expected in the higher elevations of northern Arizona, where a Wind Advisory is in effect today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

After the trough exits our region, dry and cooler conditions are expected the rest of the workweek. Valley highs are expected to drop into the mid 90s on Tuesday for the first time since May. Overnight lows will also drop off to the 60s, with outlying areas possibly seeing some upper 50s by the end of the week.

A return to near-normal temperatures is expected over the weekend with sunshine and highs in the upper 90s on Saturday and near 102 on Sunday.
