GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The Big Sky Conference has been no match for the North Dakota Fighting Hawks, with UND dispatching another Big Sky foe Saturday in a 52-28 win over Idaho St.
The final score wasn’t close, but the lead was even bigger in the first half, with North Dakota leading 38-0 at one point, thanks to an offense that was clicking and a defense that was forcing takeaways.
“The turnovers were huge for us,” Head Coach Bubba Schweigert said. “Devin (Hembry) gets the pick six, big play, really set the tone for the day, then we had a couple strip sacks and turned those into points.
“I really like our group because they lock in to what we need to do to keep getting better.”
It was also a history-making day for New Rockford native Bo Belquist. The senior receiver broke the record for most catches for a Division I player in school history, hauling in 224 passes and counting in his UND career.
“It hasn’t really set in yet, and I don’t think it really will until I’m probably done playing here and look back at it, but right now, it feels pretty good,” Belquist said. “I’m more happy we just got the win, and ready to move on to next week.”
Next up, North Dakota faces the San Diego Toreros for the first time ever Sep. 21 at 1:00 p.m. in the third of a four-game home stand.
