Despite the skies, and Auburn’s defense, parting on Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium, the Auburn Tigers righted the ship in week three against the New Mexico Lobos.
After suffering one of the worst loses of the Hugh Freeze era in week two against Cal, the Tigers bounced back with an emphatic, although nerve-wracking at times, 45-19 blowout victory over Mountain West opponent New Mexico. Auburn’s offense found new life in freshman quarterback Hank Brown’s first career start. While the Nashville, Tennessee native looked overwhelmed at times, Brown was ultimately calm, cool, and collected on his way to 235 passing yards and 4 touchdowns.
While the Tigers won the football game, Auburn’s defensive unit did not play its best game, but Eugene Asante and company were good enough to hold off a very solid Lobos attack led by star quarterback Devin Dampier. The Auburn family, while happy with Hank Brown’s performance, was not thrilled with the defensive effort. The talk on X (formerly Twitter) would almost lead one to believe the Tigers lost.
