ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KLFY) — Louisiana state leaders toured St. Mary Parish on Friday to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Francine.
Gov. Jeff Landry, along with other state officials, toured areas in eastern Louisiana including Morgan City, Houma and New Orleans.
“Morgan City was actually ground zero for Hurricane Francine, and we wanted to make sure that came into the areas that were the most affected, so we could hear directly on the ground from elected officials and from the people to make sure that we were getting the resources necessary based upon the damage this area received,” Landry said.

Earlier this week, President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration request from the governor that would provide 75% of federal funding to all 64 parishes in the state.
Landry said he hopes the federal government approves a bigger declaration to help with recovery.
“We’re working with our federal partners, the FEMA administrator was here yesterday, we are hoping that the White House gives us a major declaration act meeting today or at the latest tomorrow that will help additional resources come in to give the relief necessary,” Landry said.

As the cleanup and restoration of power continue in communities across South Louisiana, Landry said he wants citizens in Louisiana to trust that the administration will solve all complications from Hurricane Francine.
“We here in Louisiana are paying, we’re doing our jobs and now it’s time for you to give us that discount again,” Landry said.
