LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska’s top election official said Friday that both medical marijuana petitions have enough valid signatures to be on the November ballot.
Secretary of State Bob Evnen certified a pair of initiatives that would legalize and regulate medical marijuana in the state.
They each collected just under 90,000 valid signatures. They needed about 86,400.

Last month, Evnen said each had met the threshold, but under state law, election officials needed to verify more signatures before he could certify the petitions.
But Evnen said Friday that an investigation that found fraudulent signatures on the petitions could result in their removal from the ballot.
“I am certifying the petitions because, at this point, they appear to have met the threshold signature requirements,” Evnen said in a press release. “That could change in light of the Attorney General’s investigation.”

On Friday, Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers said dozens of pages on both petitions had fraudulent signatures.
A petition circulator has been charged with false swearing to a circulator’s affidavit on a petition.
In addition to the medical marijuana initiatives, Nebraskans will vote on measures dealing with abortion, private school vouchers and paid sick leave.
