The Boston Celtics will see a pair of new faces helming the Maine Celtics this season, that Portland-based ball club that serves as Boston’s G League affiliate. Maine is to have a new head coach and a new assistant is on his way to join him according to a press release from that team and recent reporting from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
That new head coach, Tyler Lashbrook, is an internal hire, as the now-10-ever head coach of Maine served as one of Boston’s player development coaches in their 2023-24 campaign. Taking his championship experience to Portland, Lashbrook appeared to be ebullient about the opportunity in his quotes from the release. “It’s an exciting time to be in the G League for both players and coaches,” said the new Maine coach.
“There’s truly no better development opportunity in the world,” added Lashbrook. I’m beyond thrilled for this opportunity to coach the Maine Celtics.”
“I want to thank (Celtics head coach) Joe Mazzulla, (Boston team president) Brad Stevens, and the Boston Celtics organization for trusting me and giving me my first head coaching opportunity. I’m honored and grateful to step into this role.”
Per Scotto, former “Washington Wizards player development lead Landon Tatum is joining the Boston Celtics’ G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, as an assistant coach” as well, bringing Maine closer to being ready for their 2024-25 campaign.
