Key dates to remember for the Nov. 5, 2024 general election
The general election is less than two months away, so if you haven’t followed the advice from Taylor Swift and others, you do have some time left to register to vote if you plan to cast your ballot.
But don’t wait too long. The deadline to register to vote in Florida comes in early October.
Here’s what you need to know.
When is the general election 2024?
The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5.

You have until Oct. 7 to register to vote in the Nov. 5 election.
The deadline to register for an upcoming election is 29 days before that election, the Florida Division of Elections said.
How do you know if you are a registered voter in Florida?
You can make sure you’re a registered voter — and that all your information is correct — by going here.
You’ll need to enter your first name, last name and birth date.
Submit the form to see your voter status, address, county, voter ID number, political party and your voter status.
An “active” voter means you are eligible to vote.
Not an ‘active’ voter? Here’s an online option to register to vote in Florida
To register online, go to RegistertoVoteFlorida.gov.
To submit an online application, you’ll need:
Most current and valid Florida driver license (Florida DL) or Florida Identification (Florida ID) card.The last four digits of your social security number.
You will need to enter your name, date of birth, Florida DL or Florida ID card number, and issued date exactly as they appear on your most current and valid Florida DL or Florida ID card.
If you do not have the required information, you can still use the online system to prefill an online voter registration application form. You can then print, sign and mail or deliver the form to your county Supervisor of Elections office.

To register to vote, you must:
Be a citizen of the United States of America (only U.S. citizens have the right to register or vote in Florida.);Be a legal resident of Florida;Be a legal resident of the county in which you seek to be registered;Be at least 16 years old to preregister or at least 18 years old to register and vote;Not be a person who has been adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting in Florida or any other state without having the right to vote restored; andNot be a person convicted of a felony without having your right to vote restored.
It’s a third-degree felony to use false information when registering to vote. Maximum penalties are $5,000 or five years in prison, according to the Florida Division of Elections.
