See how far Phish fans came to see band play at Mondegreen festival
You would be surprised how far some Mondegreen festivalgoers came to see Phish perform in Dover.
Organizers of the seventh annual Weedstock festival in Townsend hope to watch all their hard work go up in smoke this weekend.
While Weedstock averages about 1,800 revelers, event manager Cynthia Ferguson says they’re aiming to reach 3,000 guests this year, which would be the festival’s highest turnout ever.
Ferguson says the biggest reason she expects to see at least 1,000 new faces is because they’ve planned a three-day event at Fire Base Lloyd in Townsend from Friday, Sept. 13, to Sunday, Sept. 15.
Previously, Weedstock was focused more on Friday and Saturday, and people would leave Sunday. But this year has a full lineup of musical entertainment on Sunday.
Spanning multiple genres, there will be over 20 acts over the course of the three-day festival such as Lower Case Blues, The Full Carbon Getup, Katie Dill & Friends and The Mad Dabbers.
What’s new at Weedstock?
The Sunday lineup offers more hip-hop-themed acts and will feature Shizz Nitty, Harvey Road, DJ Thoro, Songbird the Goddess, Pauly Dinero, Low Cut Geno and many others.
Also new this year is an upgraded sound system, more lasers, and a 10-foot-tall moon dangling above the stage. Weedstock’s visual theme is a blend of chill space vibes mixed with mushrooms, including one 12 feet tall.
The artistic director for the scene is Lincy Baffone.
Is weed legal in Delaware?
Delaware became the 22nd state to legalize recreational marijuana use on April 23, 2023. The law makes it legal only for adults ages 21 or older. Like smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol in Delaware, it’s illegal to consume marijuana if you’re underage.
Stigma has some people afraid to come to Weedstock
Last year was the first time Weedstock was held since Delaware legalized marijuana, and Ferguson saw new guests she says she otherwise would not have seen.
“There’s always some trepidation about coming to a festival like [this],” she said. You know, they don’t want to run into somebody at work who sees them. That’s a big thing.”
Weed stigma in Delaware is fading?
But Ferguson said she’s noticed the stigma is dissolving. She believes it’ll improve once Delawareans are allowed to buy marijuana products in the state.
Adult use sales should begin by spring 2025, according to the State of Delaware Office of the Marijuana Commissioner.

“I know it’s legal [to smoke weed], but it’s kind of hard without the dispensaries or pot shops to really make it feel legal,” Ferguson said.
What is Weedstock?
Revelers looking for a fun time at the festival will encounter a host of vendors selling various marijuana-themed products and accessories. That could be anything from vendors selling soap made with hemp to artwork that pays homage to Mary Jane.
Is it legal to smoke weed at Weedstock?
Yes, it’s legal for guests to consume the legal amount of weed at Weedstock.
Although it’s illegal to still consume cannabis in public in the First State, Fire Base Lloyd allows guests to smoke marijuana on their private property for this festival
Who does Weedstock benefit?
The festival is presented by Delfire Group, a production company for events that benefit social causes. Proceeds from Weedstock benefit Delaware NORML, a nonprofit working to reform cannabis laws in the state.
