He gave up 30 yards.
L’Jarius Sneed gave up 30 yards. Over the course of a full, 60-minute football game last weekend, the Tennessee Titans’ high-priced star cornerback allowed the Chicago Bears to gain 30 yards on five targets.
Not that bad, right?
“Yeah, I played like s—, honestly. I didn’t want to watch that film that I put together. They put on film, I didn’t want to watch it,” he said. “I honestly played like s— . . . I’ve never had a game like that in my career. There’s work to be done.”
Oh. Well then.

So Sneed’s first game in a Titans uniform didn’t go the way he wanted it to. After sitting out training camp on a health management program, it makes sense that the two-time Super Bowl winner with the Kansas City Chiefs would be a little rusty.
Sunday’s game was the third-worst of his career by Pro Football Focus grade. The only Titans offensive or defensive player who graded lower than Sneed was quarterback Will Levis. It’s not as if Sneed was getting burnt for big gainers left and right, but there were some notable moments where he got beat. Most memorably, he allowed a 5-yard completion to receiver Keenan Allen on a fourth-and-3 to extend a Chicago drive in the first quarter, then was flagged for defensive holding on the next play.
“Man, I was mad as hell,” Sneed said of the fourth-down conversion. “I knew he was running that route. I got too nosy on him. He won.”
Heading into Week 2, he figures to have plenty of one-on-one matchups against New York Jets receiver Garrett Wilson. Sneed played one of his lowest-graded games of 2023 against the Jets, allowing three catches for 24 yards on six targets in coverage against Wilson.
By contrast, one week later, he allowed only two catches for 14 yards in coverage against All-Pro Minnesota Vikings standout Justin Jefferson, and a month after that he blanked both Miami Dolphins star receivers, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, when targeted in coverage against him.
After a rough start to his first season with the Titans, Sneed needs a bounce-back game against Wilson.
“I don’t like giving up catches,” Sneed said. “I have a high expectation.”
