Jayson Tatum helped lead the Boston Celtics to the 2024 NBA Championship. He sacrificed by accepting a playmaking role with a secondary focus on scoring and rebounding, thus allowing Jaylen Brown and his other teammates to have additional room when hunting for their own shots. However, that sacrifice wasn’t enough to earn him a consistent role within Steve Kerr’s Team USA roster.
Despite having Tatum deep down their rotation, Team USA still secured a gold medal at the Paris Olympics. Still, Kerr’s decision to bench the Celtics star for both of the games against Serbia raised some eyebrows and led to significant criticism being levied at Kerr. It also led to multiple debates regarding Tatum’s position as a top-10 player in the NBA.
During a recent episode of the “Club 520” podcast, former Celtics Jeff Teague and Evan Turner shared their thoughts on Tatum’s experience in Paris. Both of them agreed he was likely overlooked and could have played an impactful role for the team.
