There’s a report that comes out each year detailing the purported happiest states in America.
Pennsylvania, for several years running now, hasn’t been ranked among them.
WalletHub — which “is an award-winning personal finance company that empowers consumers to lead financially health lives” through “tools to compare credit offers” and such, according to its about page — is the one behind this report, which analyzes each of the 50 states across three key dimensions: “Emotional & Physical Well-Being,” “Work Environment” and “Community & Environment.”
Another 30 submetrics were applied for final grades — “Career Well-Being,” “Suicide Rate,” “Number of Work Hours,” and “Average Leisure Time Spent per Day” among them — and states were then ranked from one to 50, “one” being the happiest of them all.
As for who took the top spot, that honor went to Hawaii, followed by Maryland in second and New Jersey in third.
But where, oh where, is Pennsylvania? The answer to that is the 22nd overall spot, with its “Community & Environment” ranking being its worst mark.
On the bright side, this does place Pennsylvania among the top 25 happiest states. And on the brighter side, this is five spots up from Pennsylvania’s ranking on the 2022 list and three spots up from last year’s.
Perhaps, then, it’d be safe to say that the Keystone State is getting happier each year?
“In addition to pursuing your passions, having a good work-life balance and maintaining an emotional support network, another key way to boost your happiness in living in the right place,” stated WalletHub analyst, Chip Lupo.
“The happiest states are those that provide above-average quality of life ina wide variety of areas, from strong state economies and high quality physical and mental health care to adequate amounts of leisure time and good weather.”
