MAINE, NY (WBNG) — The Broome County IDA met at Maine-Endwell High School on Tuesday night. The reason for the meeting, to talk with the community and hear public opinion on the corporate tech park being developed in the Town.
Public comments from residents were documented during the meeting, as well as a review the draft scoping document of the tech park. The document highlights the projects impact on different aspects of the environment.
Stacey Duncan with the IDA spoke with 12 News on the need to hear public comments and concerns from residents. The hope they say is to better understand concerns and possible alternatives.
”It is important I think to hear from all voices on this project, it helps us do a few things. It helps us to correct some inaccurate information, and it also informs us of what we are doing through the next steps of the process.” said Duncan.
Community members spoke out at the public meeting against the tech park, speaking on environmental issues and other problems as well as possible alternatives on where or how to build the park.
One resident Susan Capone said, “I don’t believe the IDA has proven that there is a true need for it, We have so many brown spaces around the county that I think, I can speak for myself, but I think my neighbors as well would be more interested in having those green spaces cleaned up and put to use.”
The members with the IDA said they were grateful for the opportunity to speak with the public and hear opinions on what to do with the project’s steps going forward in the towns of Maine and Union.
