Ole Miss has reached the top 5 of the AP Poll for the first time in nearly 10 years, ranking at the fifth overall spot in Sunday’s poll.
That put the Rebels just ahead of the No. 6 Missouri Tigers, and right behind the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide.
This marks the first time the Rebels have been ranked in the top 5 of the AP poll since 2015. On Sept. 27, 2015 the Rebels came in as one of the best teams in the nation at No. 3.
Their good fortune did not last, though, as the team was throttled by Florida the following week in their first loss of the season after four consecutive wins over Tennessee Martin, Fresno State, No. 2 Alabama and Vanderbilt. The Gators got the best of the Rebels after that with a 38-10 victory.
Of 89 seasons, the Rebels have been ranked in 43 of them.
The team also ranked at No. 5 in the latest release of the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.
Ole Miss comes off of a 52-3 win over Middle Tennessee and will look to stay dominant as it faces Wake Forest up next on the schedule on Saturday.
