They are just going to keep being unserious, aren’t they? Voters in the US LBM Coaches Poll, presented by USA TODAY Sports, somehow put the Oregon Ducks five spots ahead of the USC Trojans. The latest poll after Week 2 came out on Sunday. A week ago, USC was eight spots behind Oregon even though the Trojans beat LSU and Oregon barely beat Idaho at home. This week, Oregon once again struggled mightily at home and was fortunate to walk away with a 37-34 win over Boise State. The Ducks did not look strong or convincing. They were 18.5-point favorites and nearly lost straight up. They very nearly went into overtime. Boise State gave up 45 points to Georgia Southern a week ago. Oregon not only failed to match that 45-point total; the Ducks’ offense scored just 23 of Oregon’s 37 points. The Ducks scored 14 of their 37 points on kick returns for touchdowns. Oregon was really shaky in Week 2. Yet, the Ducks did not drop at all in the new coaches poll. USC moved up slightly, but the Trojans beat Utah State by 48 points and pitched a shutout. Clearly, USC has been a better, stronger team than Oregon through two weeks, with quality wins and much larger margins of victory. Yet, voters have Oregon five spots ahead of the Trojans. It’s perplexing, to say the least. Here is the full poll after Week 2:
