2 Delaware cities are among the most stressed in America, study finds
These two Delaware cities are among the most 180 stressed municipalities in America.
It should come as no surprise that money, health and the economy are the the top stressors for people nationwide.
But in some cities, conditions have created a stronger stress stew for its residents.
A recent report says two Delaware cities made the 180-municipality list of the most stressed spots in the United States.
Personal finance site WalletHub gathered data using information such as average weekly work hours, unemployment rates, and divorce and suicide rates to determine which cities are feeling stress the most. The study found that Cleveland topped the list for the most stressed city in America.
The study examined 39 factors across four main categories: work stress, financial stress, family stress, and health & safety stress.
“Some stress is out of our control, due to issues with family, friends or employers. However, where you live can play a big role in how stressed you are,” says Cassandra Happe, a WalletHub analyst. “Cities with high crime rates, weak economies, less effective public health and congested transportation systems naturally lead to elevated stress levels for residents.”
The first Delaware city to land on the list is also our largest: Wilmington, which ranked 25th nationwide. Wilmington ranked 43rd in work stress, 30th in financial stress, 34th in family stress and 62nd in health and safety stress.
Delaware’s second largest city, Dover, is the only other First State city on the list. It ranked 67th in work stress, 28th in financial stress, 98th in family stress and 31st in health and safety stress.
Nearby, Philadelphia was named the sixth most stressed city in the country. It ranked 12th in work stress, 12th in financial stress, 31st in family stress and 9th in health and safety stress.
