South Dakota high school football predictions Week 2No. 2 Lincoln at No. 4 O’Gorman
Lincoln 28, O’Gorman 7: The Patriots may have lost some important offensive pieces, but that didn’t stop them from rattling Rapid City Stevens, 55-7. The Knights looked strong defensively against No. 1 Harrisburg, but Lincoln’s offense appears to be firing on all cylinders.
No. 3 Dakota Valley at No. 1 Canton
Canton 21, Dakota Valley 14: Both teams are coming off narrow Week 1 wins. The Panthers knocked off the reigning state champions Dell Rapids, 22-14, while Canton needed a late touchdown and stop to defeat Rapid City Christian. This will surely be a tight game but the C-Hawks have special pieces on both sides of the ball which should prove to be the difference.
No. 2 Sioux Falls Christian at No. 5 Rapid City Christian
Sioux Falls Christian 35, Rapid City Christian 28: Rapid City Christian is in its first year at the 11A level, and they made quite the debut last week pushing No. 1 Canton to the brink. Because of that, there’s no recent history between the Chargers and the Comets, but Sioux Falls Christian put together an impressive performance in their 42-13 win over West Central. They’re strong on both sides of the ball and should be able to remain undefeated.

Washington at No. 1 Harrisburg
Harrisburg 21, Washington 0: The Warriors put up a fight against Brandon Valley in their season opener, but suffered a major blow early in the week when Dveyoun Bonwell-Witte, one of the top receivers in the state, announced he’ll miss the remainder of the season with a fractured knee. Washington struggled offensively last week and with one less threat, against a Harrisburg defense that shut out O’Gorman, that will likely happen again.
No. 5 Jefferson vs. Roosevelt
Jefferson 42, Roosevelt 14: The Cavaliers made short work of Watertown, one of the top teams in 11AA, turning in a top performance on both sides of the ball and earning a 38-7 win. The Rough Riders earned their first win of the season last week as well in a tight game against a Rapid City Central team that went 0-9 last season. Jefferson is much further along at this point in the season and should be able to pull this one out.
No. 3 Brandon Valley at Rapid City Stevens
Brandon Valley 35, Rapid City Stevens 7: The Lynx dominated the Raiders a year ago, beating Rapid City Stevens on the road 52-0. Although their offense may take some time to reach where they were a year ago, Brandon Valley has more than enough talent to earn their second win of the season.
No. 5 Aberdeen Central at Tea Area
Tea 21, Aberdeen Central 14: A year ago the Golden Eagles and the Titans battled to a 28-7 Tea Area win. Although the Titans bring back a more experienced group, they’re also coming off a shock defeat against Spearfish. It’ll be difficult, but we predict Tea will bounce back with a narrow win.
West Central at Belle Fourche
West Central 28, Belle Fourche 7: Both teams will be looking to earn their first wins of the season after disappointing showings in Week 1. The Trojans played well in the first quarter against Sioux Falls Christian before the Chargers took control. The Broncos, meanwhile, struggled against a Madison team that went 3-7 last season, falling 41-6. We anticipate West Central, with its strong defense and smash-mouth offense, will bounce back for their first win of the season.
Custer at No. 4 Lennox
Lennox 42, Custer 7: The Orioles offense looks in peak form already and it’s only Week 2. They defeated Vermillion in Week 1 48-13. Custer lost their opening game to Tri-Valley 20-13. Similar to a year ago when Lennox defeated the Wildcats 58-7, the Orioles’ offense will likely prove to be too much for Custer.
