A rip current statement was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 2:56 p.m. valid from Friday 8 a.m. until Saturday 8 p.m. for Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Plymouth, Bristol and Dukes counties.
The weather service describes, “Dangerous rip currents expected.”
“Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” explains the weather service. “Many area beaches do not have life guards post Labor Day Weekend which makes rip current more dangerous. Best to find a beach with a life guard and never swim alone. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.”
