For most of the past seven years, Notre Dame has welcomed a Mid-American Conference opponent to South Bend. And by welcomed, we mean beaten them every single time. The Irish are 10-0 all-time against the conference, and this week, they’ll look to make it 11-0 against Northern Illinois.
The Huskies had their best period of sustained success during the first half of the 2010s, winning 11 or 12 games every single year. Since then, their fortunes have zigzagged, though they did win the Camellia Bowl a season ago. The question now is whether that marked the start of a new winning era for the program.
So who are the Huskies that Irish fans will have to look out for in this game? In some ways, it’s hard to tell for sure because they’ve played only one contest like most other teams. But that’s not going to stop us from trying to answer that question anyway.
