MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) — The USDA Forest Service announced a new forest supervisor to lead in the management of Alabama’s four national forests.
Southern Regional Forester Ken Arney said Linwood Butler will supervise the Bankhead, Conecuh, Talladega and Tuskegee National Forests that cover more than 673,000 acres in 17 Alabama counties.
The USDA Forest Service said Butler is responsible for the management, protection, and development of natural resources on the National Forests in Alabama.

He serves as a steward for the national forest and embodies the core value of service. In this role he balances the short and long-term needs of people and nature by working collaboratively with communities and partners, using science and technology.
“I look forward to working with National Forests in Alabama employees, Tribes, federal and state partners, cooperators, national forest stakeholders, visitors and the public as we steward the land for present and future generations,” said Butler. “I am excited to welcome new visitors and underserved communities to enjoy the benefits of national forests,” said Butler.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, the USDA said Butler brings 38 years of leadership experience to the position.
He previously served as administrative officer, district ranger and deputy forest supervisor with various federal agencies including United States Air Force, Department of Defense, USDA Rural Development and Forest Service in South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Alabama.
