Cade McNamara discusses a variety of topics ahead of Iowa’s rivalry matchup with Iowa State.
Iowa football began its 2024 season with a convincing victory, but the No. 21 Hawkeyes must have a faster start in their Week 2 rivalry matchup at home against Iowa State.
The annual Cy-Hawk contest will be one of the highlights of the college football weekend. Iowa holds a 47-23 advantage in the historic pairing, including a road win last season.

Iowa vs Iowa State predictions, picks for college football Week 2Chad Leistikow, Hawk Central columnist
Iowa 22, Iowa State 17: Three things have tipped my preseason prediction by six points into Iowa’s column: Improved quarterback play, Iowa State’s injury situation and the emotional boost of head coach Kirk Ferentz’s return after a one-game suspension. The Hawkeyes’ offense hasn’t topped 313 yards since 2017 vs. Iowa State, but they’ll exceed that mark in Tim Lester’s second game as offensive coordinator. Some timely wide-receiver runs, a strong kicking game, buttoned-up defense and clean play at quarterback send Iowa to the win with the total going over (35).
