Iowa high school football predictions Week 2Iowa City Liberty at Iowa City High
Iowa City Liberty (1-0), Iowa City High (0-1): Iowa City Liberty featured a stellar running game during its 56-45 win over Iowa City West in Week 1. That momentum is expected to continue in Week 2 against City High.

The Lightning put up a total of 365 rushing yards powered by Owen Drapeaux, who rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns. Let’s not forget about the Liberty defense that snatched two interceptions when it mattered most. An ultra-talented City High team will look to make its own statement after a double-digit loss to Joliet Catholic Academy (IL) in the season opener. But Liberty’s strength up front and overall offensive depth may present a challenge that’s too much for City High to overcome. Iowa City Liberty 41, Iowa City High 38
Solon at Clear Creek Amana
Solon (1-0), Clear Creek Amana (1-0): It’ll be a defensive battle between two programs that have faced off just once in the last 11 years.
Solon handed CCA a 7-3 loss in Week 2 of last season, but both teams are rocking new looks in 2024. The Spartans are coming off a 33-7 win over Assumption, while the Clippers blew out Marion, 28-3. Solon football has the edge in state experience, but CCA has the depth on both sides of the ball to get it done on Friday night. Its defense forced four turnovers against Marion in Week 1, including two interceptions by Owen Rosenberg. Conlan Poynton, a Solon transfer, rushed for over 100 yards while Ethan Vice rushed for 98 yards on 10 carries.

In the end, the Clippers’ depth will be the deciding factor in a nailbiter against the Spartans. CCA 21, Solon 17
Urbandale at Iowa City West
Iowa City West (0-1), Urbandale (0-1): The Trojans are coming off a disappointing loss to Iowa City Liberty in Week 1. Two offensive turnovers and defensive breakdowns were to blame, but there were some bright spots.
Butali Butali provided a spark with 119 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Jack Wallace accounted for four touchdowns while Julian Manson caught seven receptions for 96 yards and one touchdown. Iowa commit Mason Woods also ran back an 87-yard kickoff return for a score.
For a talented Trojan team, it’ll come down to minimizing defensive mistakes. Expect the Trojans to find their stride against the J-Hawks. Iowa City West 38, Urbandale 14
Regina Catholic at Mid-Prairie
Regina Catholic (1-0), Mid-Prairie (0-1): The Regal offense was hitting on all cylinders in a 42-28 win against West Liberty in Week 1.
Kyle Tracy, who got the start at quarterback, threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for a score. Sophomore Tate Wallace finished his Friday night with 139 yards on seven receptions and a touchdown while Savion Miller rushed for 99 yards on 14 carries.
That offensive chemistry doesn’t look like it’ll be slowing down anytime soon. The Regals beat Mid-Prairie, 51-19, last season. The margin of victory will be just a little bit smaller this time around. Regina Catholic 35, Mid-Prairie 20
