Ollie Gordon II showcased his versatility as the No. 17-ranked OSU football team began its season with a 44-20 win over South Dakota State on Saturday in Stillwater.
The junior running back recorded 27 carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 42 yards and one touchdown.
After a quiet first quarter against South Dakota State’s defense, which ranked second in the FCS in rushing yards allowed per game (89.6) last season, Gordon finally broke free. He ran for a 12-yard touchdown with 8:35 left until halftime.
Gordon also contributed to OSU’s passing game. He caught a 22-yard touchdown pass with 10:46 left in the third quarter that gave the Cowboys a 24-6 lead.

Gordon then found the end zone for a third time when he ran for a one-yard touchdown with 2:29 left in the third quarter, and OSU went on to earn the wire-to-wire victory.
Gordon surpassed 100 rushing yards for the fourth time in his last five outings, which dates back to last season. And while he only finished with an average of 3.9 yards per carry, the workhorse running back still managed to put up a good stat line against a South Dakota State defense that’s one of the best at the FCS level.
