Kalen DeBoer already has 1 thing over Nick Saban after coaching exactly 1 game at Alabama.
With Saturday night’s 63-0 shellacking of Western Kentucky at Bryant-Denny Stadium, DeBoer became the 1st Crimson Tide head coach to post a shutout in his 1st game in a little over a century — 101 years, to be exact.
The last time it happened?
It was way back in 1923, when Wallace Wade began his legend at Alabama with a 12-0 shutout over Union University.
Kalen DeBoer is the first Alabama coach to get a shutout in his first game in 101 years.
Last time: A 12-0 shutout of Union University in Wallace Wade’s debut in 1923.

For those wondering how Saban fared in his very 1st game at Bama, he nearly pulled off the debut shutout, as the Crimson Tide routed Western Carolina, 52-6, on Sept. 1, 2007, in Tuscaloosa.
DeBoer has a tough act to follow at Alabama, maybe the toughest of any college football coach in history, following arguably the greatest college coach of all-time in Saban.
Yes, the Tide were facing an overmatched team from Conference USA on Saturday night, but pitching a shutout against anyone isn’t easy to do, let alone with the college football world watching to see just how Alabama would look under someone other than Saban for the 1st time since 2006.
It was 42-0 Bama by halftime, and although the Tide’s scoring pace leveled off in the 2nd half as the backups were filtered in, the Hilltoppers never did get on the scoreboard and DeBoer made some history.
