Today is Aug. 31, 2024. And on this date in Texas history, UT opened the 1990 volleyball season with a 3-0 win over Houston.
After sweeping Houston, Texas kept winning… and winning… and winning. The Longhorns kept winning until a 3-1 loss at Nebraska on Nov. 3. That loss snapped a 26-match winning streak that still stands as the best run in school history.
Texas eventually ended the 1990 season with a 31-4 record and an appearance in the third round of the NCAA tournament.
Texas is set to open its 2024 season this Sunday with a showdown against No. 3 Wisconsin at the State Farm Women’s College Volleyball Showcase in Milwaukee. As the NCAA’s two-time defending champion and the top-ranked team in the AVCA preseason poll, Texas heads into this season with a 10-match winning streak.
