Oklahoma State enters the 2024 college football season among the favorites to win the reconfigured and expanded Big 12. If the Cowboys are able to best Utah, Kansas State, Arizona and Kansas to win the conference, they’ll earn their first-ever berth in the College Football Playoff.
The question of whether those goals will be attainable for coach Mike Gundy’s team will begin to be answered soon.
This weekend, Oklahoma State, ranked No. 18 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll, will host South Dakota State Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

After a 2-2 start last season, the Cowboys won eight of their final 10 games, a run highlighted by a 27-24 win against then-No. 11 Oklahoma in the last scheduled game of the longtime rivals’ Bedlam series. They’re carried into the 2024 season by running back Ollie Gordon II, the leading rusher in all of the FBS last season and one of the most popular picks to win the Heisman Trophy this season.
Gordon and his team may not have to wait long to encounter a challenge.
South Dakota State is the two-time reigning FCS champion and has compiled a 29-1 record the past two seasons. Their title runs haven’t been particularly sweat-inducing, either. The Jackrabbits won their eight FCS playoff games during across two seasons by an average of 29.1 points per game, with none of those contests decided by fewer than 11 points. Their lone loss over the past two seasons was a 7-3 nail-biter in 2022 on the road against what ended up being an eight-win Iowa team.

What channel is Oklahoma State football vs South Dakota State on today?
The Cowboys’ game against South Dakota State cannot be found on traditional linear television.
Rather, the game will be shown exclusively on ESPN+, ESPN’s streaming platform. Shawn Kenney (play-by-play) and Taylor McHargue (analyst) will call the game while Tori Petry will serve as the sideline reporter.

But I’m still going with OSU, which has too much talent to suffer a Week 1 upset. That’s not how this thing will go, and there’s a legitimate chance that SDST comes into Stillwater and gives the Cowboys the scare of a lifetime.
