Here are the California makeout spots that couples say are some of the best in the country.
The Lone Cypress stands above the Pacific Ocean in Pebble Beach, Calif.
7. The 17-Mile Drive, Monterey
Pebble Beach’s scenic 17-Mile Drive meanders along the Pacific Ocean, passing forests, beaches, and golf courses. This famous highway is home to the Lone Cypress, one of the most photographed trees in the world, and a perfect spot to inspire a bit of intimacy.
Watch the sunset as the waves crash against the rocks, or get cozy as you watch the seals frolic on the shore.
“The California coastline is truly unique, and I’ve actually done this drive many times headed to Monterey Bay,” Brooks said. “Because it’s all public property, the beaches tend not to be crowded, even in the summertime, and it’s actually pretty easy to find a section of beach all to yourself.”
30. Mulholland Drive, Los Angeles
Winding through the Santa Monica mountains and the Hollywood Hills, Mulholland Drive offers some of the best views of downtown Los Angeles and the iconic Hollywood sign. At night, with the city lights blazing, it’s a great place to enjoy the sights with a loved one.
69. Big Sur coastline, along Highway 1
One of the most beautiful locations at the end of one of the most beautiful drives in the world, Big Sur is never a disappointment. Highlights include the Bixby Creek Bridge and the Point Sur Lighthouse. Any place you can stop in Big Sur can lead to a gorgeous view and a chance to get romantic with your significant other.
Other makeout opportunities in California
According to USA Today, here are some of the most romantic spots in California. Here are some ideas:
There’s no better way to view the Coachella Valley than from above. For the best views of the desert, take a cable car into the mountains at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The 12.5-minute ride in the world’s largest rotating aerial tramway will offer 360-degree views of the greater Palm Springs area as you climb two-and-a-half miles to Mountain Station in Mount San Jacinto State Park, and offers a perfect place for a smooch.
Enjoy a day of wine tasting in the Napa or Sonoma Valleys. After a day of sampling wine, you can enjoy a meal at one of Napa’s acclaimed restaurants, including the uber-expensive French Laundry and a nice kiss after draining your bank account.
More than 1 million people visit Muir Woods National Monument each year, and for good reason. The grove of coast redwoods has been protected for a century, and the amazing specimens rank among the tallest trees in the world. Nature lovers must walk hand-in-hand through this natural cathedral and find a quiet place to kiss.
Head to the Golden Gate Bridge. Walking hand-in-hand across the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most romantic walks in the world, and a perfect place for a quick kiss.
Head for the hills as the sun sets, and you’ll find one of L.A.’s most breathtaking spots to spark a bit of love: The Griffith Observatory. Visit after the sun goes down: The night sky above, the city lights below, and a telescope to help you see the stars create the romance of the Griffith Observatory.
