The day “Back to the Future” fans have been waiting for is here.
Weeks after Rhode Island Comic Con announced appearances by Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and others, they’ve completed the cast reunion with the news that Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly) will be appearing at this year’s event.
Fox, 63, has been acting since the 1970s.
His breakout role as Alex P. Keaton on NBC’s “Family Ties” lasted 172 episodes, ending in 1989.
Fox is also known for his television roles on “Spin City” and “The Good Wife,” as well as appearances on “Rescue Me” and “Boston Legal.”
In addition to playing Marty McFly in all three “Back to the Future” films, Fox also starred in “Teen Wolf” and “The Frighteners.”
Fox has won multiple Emmys and Golden Globe awards, and he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 1998, Fox revealed he’d been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, years before. Parkinson’s disease is a neuro-degenerative illness that affects a person’s motor skills, among other impacts.
Since his diagnosis, Fox has become a powerful advocate for research and treatment.
He founded The Michael J. Fox Foundationin 2000, to fund research focused on curing Parkinson’s disease.
In 2023, the Apple TV documentary “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” focuses on the actor’s life and his fight against Parkinson’s disease.
Fox has been making other convention appearances, and is appearing at L.A. Comic Con in October.
In June, he joined Coldplay on-stage at Glastonbury 2024, for their performance of their song, “Fix You.”

Fox is the latest in a string of recent guest announcements for this year’s Rhode Island Comic Con.
There’s the current cast of Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty,” with voice actors Ian Cardoni, Chris Parnell, Harry Belden, and Spencer Grammer.
“Saved By The Bell” co-stars Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley will be appearing, along with actors Steven Bauer and Jennifer Morrison.
Organizers have also announced a special Friday night screening of “Twister” with star Helen Hunt, with more details to come.
I feel like I say this every year, but Rhode Island Comic Con 2024 is shaping up to be the biggest one yet. There are still two months worth of announcements and updates to go.
