Coach Andy Reid has frequently said he allows Chiefs players to experiment with play-designs but it comes with a caveat.
When deciding what additions to make to the Chiefs playbook, Reid has 51% of the vote. In other words, if he doesn’t like the players’ ideas, those plays won’t be run in a game.
That clearly hasn’t stifled the Chiefs’ creativity. Remember the spinning huddle, Rose Bowl Parade Right or when quarterback Patrick Mahomes went in motion?
We are likely to see more fun plays in the 2024 season, and there is a chance the Chiefs could run a play sometime that was designed by someone outside the organization.
It’s superstar singer Taylor Swift.
Mahomes let that tidbit slip during a chat with NBC Sports’ Chris Simms. Mahomes had positive things to say about Swift and how she has helped the NFL gain more female fans.
Some have questioned Swift’s football knowledge, but she’s drawing up plays.
“I think it’s been cool to see the girls and the women that have really embraced watching football, and I know being a girl dad, how cool it is for me to see like these little girls, these daughters, and how much they’re loving to spend time with their dad, watching football,” Mahomes said. “And then meeting Taylor, realize how genuine and cool she is. I think that’s been special to me because, she’s like you said the most famous person in the world, she could not be.
“And she’s really interested in football, and she asks a lot of great questions. Started drawing up plays. We might have to put one in.”
Imagine the names that could be associated with some of those plays from Swift. She has a huge catalog of songs and you could imagine one her tunes being used for a play she designed.
Mahomes also talked about how the Chiefs embraced having Swift attend their games. Here is Mahomes on Swift and Kelce.
