According to Ian Rapoport, Philadelphia Eagles DB James Bradberry has suffered a leg injury in practice and will miss roughly 6-8 weeks. This comes just one day after the veteran made the roster as a Safety.
Eagles DB James Bradberry suffers leg injury
Philly secondary depth takes a hit with the season looming. That said, James Bradberry should be back with plenty of time for the second half of the season. https://t.co/JYMWlUQezC

The news is obviously disheartening for Bradberry, but it’s not like he was in-line for a key role this season. After making the jump to Safety following an influx of young talent at corner, the veteran struggled in preseason play and was subsequently dangled in trade discussions, but had no suitors.
With Reed Blankenship and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson already entrenched as starters, and Avonte Maddox in-line to play a rotational role until Sydney Brown returns, Bradberry was always facing an uphill battle. However, it only takes one more injury for the position to be thrown into a state of disarray.
In a pinch, Cooper DeJean or Quinyon Mitchell would journey up to the Safety spot, but it’s still a less-than-ideal situation to envision.

The Eagles did bring in Caden Sterns, who previously thrived under Vic Fangio in Denver, for a short term in Training Camp, but injuries halted his progress. He could be a logical replacement if he can get back to health in time and perform adequately in practice. Sterns made the practice squad and could well receive a call-up as a result.
One positive is that the team did sign veteran C Nick Gates, formerly of the Washington Commanders. He’ll need a roster spot to backup Cam Jurgens, so Bradberry hitting IR at least opens that avenue.
