SOLON, Ohio —
Fraud: Solon Road
At 3:30 p.m. Aug. 25, a Solon woman, 28, reported being the near victim of a scam. The woman said that she saw a Facebook posting supposedly made by a friend of her father. The man advertised four tickets to Taylor Swift’s November concert in Indianapolis.
She contacted the man, who said his cousin was the one actually selling the tickets, for $2,000. The woman was instructed to use Venmo to send the money.
After sending the money and failing to receive the tickets, the woman asked her father to call his friend. Her father found that his friend’s Facebook account had been hacked.
The woman contacted her bank and was able to stop the transfer of her money.
Assault: Bruce Industrial Parkway
At 11:30 a.m. Aug. 21, a Cleveland man, 36, reported being the victim of an assault. The man said that on Aug. 2 he had been terminated from his job at The Digital Room, 30500 Bruce Industrial Parkway.
As the man left The Digital Room upon his firing, he was upset and knocked over a sign and threw his coffee. In response, an employee, a Cleveland man, 51, shoved him.
The complainant was not injured. Police have referred the matter to the city prosecutor to determine if charges will be filed.
Theft: Washington Court
At 9:40 a.m. Aug. 22, a Shaker Heights man, 47, reported that he was doing work on a Washington Court home on Aug. 21 and upon leaving for the day, left his tools outside near the garage.
The next day, he discovered the tools missing. The tools were valued at $800.
Weapons offense: Solon Road
At 4:15 p.m. Aug. 23, officers were dispatched to Solon and Aurora roads on a report of a two-car crash. As the first officer arrived, one of the cars, a black Hyundai sedan, was seen pulling away from the other car, a silver Toyota, still stopped in the road.
The officer stopped the Hyundai on Aurora Road. The driver told the officer that he had been in a crash, but had left his information with the other driver and was now leaving. The Hyundai driver told the officer that he had a gun, inside a black bag in his car.
Police found that the Hyundai driver had only exchanged with the Toyota driver his license plate number, and not his insurance and driver’s license information.
Officers investigated and learned that the Hyundai and had struck the Toyota from behind. It was further learned that the Hyundai driver was not qualified to carry a gun due to a prior conviction for resisting arrest.
Officers detained the man and took possession of the gun, along with marijuana, suspected cocaine powder, two cell phones, and $217 in cash.
Police charged the Bedford Heights man, 24, with drug trafficking and improper handling of a firearm, both fourth-degree felonies, as well as failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead. The Hyundai was towed.
Neither driver was injured.
Protection order violation: Solon Road
At 7:20 p.m. Aug. 23, a Solon woman, 57, went to the police station to report that her husband, against whom she has a protection order, went that day to her place of work in Beachwood. When security at her workplace went to ask why he was there, the man left.
While the woman was at the Solon police station making her report, she received a call telling her that her husband was parked in his Toyota SUV near her home.
Police went to her home and found the man. He was arrested for violating a protection order.
Theft: Aurora Road
At 2:20 p.m. Aug. 26, the property manager at Hawthorne Valley Country Club, 27840 Aurora Road, reported the theft of tools and equipment.
The Newbury man, 62, stated that he last saw the items in July. A trailer, Hustler zero-turn mower, three Yamaha golf carts, and other tools were reportedly taken.
The items had been left outside. Evidence suggested that the equipment was dragged or winched onto another piece of equipment and transported away.
Estimated replacement value is more than $30,000. Police are investigating.
