NEW YORK (WCSC) – Just 4 days after announcing the U.S. Open would be her final tournament, Shelby Rogers played her final career singles match as a professional tennis player.
The Lowcountry native lost to her friend and fellow American Jessica Pegula in the 1st round 6-4, 6-3 on Monday night wrapping up her 15 year pro career.
Rogers got to end things in style. She played her final match on Stadium Court in the last match of the night. At the same tournament where she had some of the biggest wins in her career.
It was last Friday that Rogers announced on social media that this would be her last professional tournament. She spent the past few days preparing and enjoying New York with her family.
She wraps up having made 2 career grand slam quarterfinals and was a member of the Federation Cup Championship team in 2017.
