Suspected DUI crash knocks out power to Arizona town

BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ (AZFamily) — Power is now restored for a town north of Phoenix after a crash knocked out electricity for the entire community.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the crash on Coldwater Road in Black Canyon City around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Several people reported to the sheriff’s office that their power was out.

Deputies at the scene found that a man in his 50s crashed his car into two USPS mailboxes and a street sign, caused damage to an APS pole and drove into a ditch. The damage to the pole knocked out power to all of Black Canyon City.

The driver was hospitalized in Phoenix for his injuries, but the sheriff’s office did not provide a condition update.

APS fully restored power by 10:30 p.m., and the company estimated damages at $10,000.

The county attorney’s office is reviewing charges of DUI and felony damages.
