FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Less than two days out from NDSU’s highly-anticipated season opener at Colorado, there’s a lot of anticipation and distractions ahead of the matchup.
With it being a season opener against a team with a national spotlight, the Bison are trying to cut through the noise and stay focused on the job at hand.
“To us, it’s just another game,” Right Guard Jake Rock said. “Like we always say, the most important game is the game that we have that week, just eliminating all the distractions and focusing on the game plan, focusing on the guys in the team room, guys within the offense, guys on the defense, coaches, that’s what’s really important and that’s what we’re focusing on.”
The Buffaloes once again have the attention of the nation, with Deion Sanders in his second season leading the program and the buzz that comes with it.
“Coach P talked to us all week just blocking out the noise, us not really looking too much about what’s being said on social media,” Cornerback Marcus Sheppard said. “But I feel like we’re all very focused and know what we need to go there and do and just get the job done, so I think we’re all good and all focused.”
Along with the outside noise, the atmosphere at Folsom Field is also something to contend with Thursday, but Defensive Lineman Jaxon Duttenhefer believes North Dakota St. will be ready for it.
”I think we probably have, if not the loudest, then one of the loudest venues in and of itself here at the dome,” Duttenhefer said. “We have all the Bison faithful, Bison nation coming in here and packing the dome and making it loud.”
“Just got to make sure that we are very clear with our non-verbal communication as well and just make sure that we’re locked in with everything.”
The season opener between North Dakota St. and Colorado kicks off Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., and Sports Director Devin Fry is in Boulder to provide coverage for Valley News Live Sports.
