Gov. Phil Murphy will honor the life of New Jersey Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr., who died last week, by ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff all day on Tuesday and throughout all of Wednesday.
Murphy signed an executive order which will make all United States and New Jersey flags at state departments, offices, agencies and instrumentalities fly at half-staff.
Pascrell died last week on Aug. 21. He served the Paterson area in Congress for nearly three decades. He was 87 years old.
The Democratic congressman, who lived in the community he served, was also a U.S. Army Veteran. He joined the State General Assembly in 1988 and was the Mayor of Paterson in 1990 before he was elected to Congress in 1996.
The executive order from Murphy states that the half-staff flags will represent the “recognition and mourning of a dedicated legislator and public servant, Representative Bill Pascrell.”
