Patrick Ransdell, the Appalachian State Deputy Athletic Director, is reportedly being targeted by Missouri State to become its next athletics director.
CollegeAD.com, a reputable college athletics industry website, was the first to report Monday afternoon. Multiple sources have indicated to the News-Leader in recent days that Ransdell has emerged as the favorite.
Missouri State’s Board of Governors will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday where it is expected to approve its choice for its next athletics director.
Ransdell is one of two finalists remaining for the Bears’ vacant athletic director position. Vince Volpe, the associate athletic director at Arizona State, is the other.

A Missouri State spokesperson declined to comment on the report. CollegeAD.com’s report broke during the football program’s weekly media availability.
Ransdell would take over Missouri State athletics at perhaps the most transformational time in its history. The school will become a Football Bowl Subdivision athletics program when it joins Conference USA in 2025-26. With the move, he will likely have to oversee various construction projects, specifically at Plaster Stadium where Williams has stated publicly he wants to put nine figures into the football program.
If the on-campus challenge wasn’t enough, Ransdell will need to help the university continue to adapt to the ever-changing collegiate landscape. Such issues include the NCAA’s ongoing house settlement and the ramifications it will bring, continued conference realignment, potential adjustments to the Group of 5’s role in the College Football Playoff and Name, Image and Likeness.
