We have one weather system we can bank on to lower the humidity. That weather system is in our sights, but quite far out in time.
Remember, the dew point temperature is the best way to gauge if us Michiganders are going to be uncomfortable due to humidity. The dew point temperature is still a tough concept to grasp for some. All you really need to know is higher dew points mean a higher stickiness feel to the air. For most Michiganders a dew point temperature of 65 degrees or higher gives a muggy feel. A dew point temperature over 70 degrees is a very sticky feel. Finally, when dew point temperatures rise to 75 degrees or higher the humidity is extremely oppressive. I’ve seen an isolated dew point at 80 degrees three times in my 32 years here in Michigan.
Today will have dew point temperatures between 65 degrees and 72 degrees. Today will be very muggy. Tuesday will be even more oppressive with the highest dew point temperatures all across Michigan in quite some time. Dew point temperatures Tuesday will range between 70 degrees and 75 degrees. Imagine yourself in New Orleans on a hot summer day.
There really isn’t a weather feature that will sweep the high humidity air south and east of Michigan, until late Friday.
Here’s the dew point forecast from today through Saturday. Pay attention to the big shift from orange colors and high humidity to blue colors and much drier air.
After a solid cold front swings through late Friday, the dew point temperatures will drop quickly in just a few hours. But we won’t feel any relief from high humidity until Saturday morning for most of us.
Here’s a snapshot of the line of quick drop in dew point temperatures.
The drop doesn’t happen until late Friday. You better find a way to keep cool this week.
